Redeemed! 10 Ways to Get Out of the Gay Life, If You Want Out

by Charlene E. Cothran, Venus Magazine Publisher

Over the past 29 years of my life I have been an aggressive, creative and strategic supporter of gay and lesbian issues. I’ve organized and participated in countless marches and various lobbying efforts in the fight for equal treatment of gay men and lesbians. I have kept current on the issues and made financial contributions to those organizations doing work about which I was most passionate.

As the publisher of a 13 year old periodical which targets Black gays and lesbians, I have had the opportunity to publicly address thousands, influencing closeted people to ‘come out’ and stand up for them selves, which is particularly difficult in the African-American community.

But now, I must come out of the closet again. I have recently experienced the power of change that came over me once I completely surrendered to the teachings of Jesus Christ. As a believer of the word of God, I fully accept and have always known that same-sex relationships are not what God intended for us.

It's amazing the power of Jesus Christ, that can change someones life, I'm proof of that, as are millions of people around the globe. A day comes in which we all have to decide, do we serve our own flesh, or God...

In the end its your decesion!

Hey Mark - I just posted this too and I dedicated it to Deb with love! Go check out her comments. At first I thought there was hope, but unfortunately it turned out to be the SOS. Too bad. Guess we'll just have to keep praying that God will show her the Truth.

Chase, I hit "rejected" on your comment and I cannot moderate it twice. here it is. My fault.

Mark, it's pretty much the list of steps to becoming a Christian, with the addition of anti-gay theology. With this logic, any conservative Christian who truthfully listens to the scripture and shares the word with others while sharing a relationship with Jesus will never become gay.

This woman, sadly, like so man "ex-gays and lesbians," blamed their unhappiness on their homosexuality. She seems to generalize her own views and insecurities onto the entire community because she couldn't imagine anyone being different from her. Fortunately, the grand majority of us are not miserable, don't desperately hope for "change," and live comfortable, meaningful lives.

I wonder who the heck would read her magazine now.

Mark said...

with the addition of anti-gay theology.

Chase, would you like to define that theology for me? and where in God's word is it pro-gay 'theology'?

Robert Bayn said...

I'm far from being a Conservative Christian, and I can tell you, the steps listed, now only are Biblical, but they work!

I read this story a few days ago at Cothran's site and noticed that our friend DL Foster was posting in the comments.

Both here, and there, the pro-gay activists had absolute hissy fits over Charlene's conversion!

It's amazing to me that pro-gay advocates can't stand the fact that homosexuals and lesbians can and are redeemed of homosexual behavior and identity through the power of Jesus Christ. Instead of being happy for them, they condemn them for "switching sides", so to speak.

HOW
RIDICULOUS!

Homosexuals and lesbians are some of the most intolerant people on this earth! Especially when a person's redemption includes freedom from the sin of homosexual behavior.

Do we even need to guess just what spiritual being is behind such a mindset? I think we know...

And Chase-

I'm sure that Charlene would trade the continuation of her (currently) successful magazine for redemption in Jesus Christ in a heartbeat! In fact, her article here proves it!

Mark said...

Thanks Christine!

I sure miss DL's insight on this subject. I often post about it not for the exact same reasons, but celebrated sin in the name of God makes my heart ache.

I'm sure that Charlene would trade the continuation of her (currently) successful magazine for redemption in Jesus Christ in a heartbeat!

Only if all God's children would do the same! See a pattern here? OT and NT; we remain the same...always looking for something else and pushing our living God aside to pursue the lies the Prince of Lies offers in his Rule of this world.

They may be "redeemed of homosexual behavior" but that doesn't mean they aren't gay. They're just in denial People can change behavior or live in denial - but they don't change their sexual orientation. The truth is: You can't pray away the gay."

And I don't think Jesus wants us to. At least that's what he tells me!

Christinewjc said...

John,

I know three people (2 male, 1 female) who have changed not only their former homosexual behavior, but their former homosexual orientation as well. In fact, there are thousands!

How can you sit there and type out a claim that is patently untrue?

Furthermore, are you certain that Jesus wants you to engage in homosexual acts? Where in the Bible does He condone it?

Are you just listening to a liberal pastor on this issue?

Are you sure that the "voice" you are hearing is genuinely from Jesus? Or could it be from the enemy of our souls?

Men may change their opinions about anything and everything. But God's Word NEVER changes! In his prayer to the Father, Jesus proclaimed, "Your word is truth" and about the disciples and all future believers he said, "sanctify them with Your truth."

The Holy Spirit of God would not be encouraging you to go against God's written word in the Bible!

The following are some passages in the New Testament concerning homosexuality showing that it is a sin. People who have been deceived and don't believe it is sin, are truly in danger of not knowing the spiritual as well as physical consequences!

Two main passages in the New Testament declaring homosexuality to be a sin are Romans 1:24-27 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. In the former, Paul speaks of the world as given over to "degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire towards one another, men with men committing indecent acts." In the Corinthian passage, Paul includes homosexuals among those who will not inherit the kingdom of God. "Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers… nor homosexuals…shall inherit the kingdom of God." Paul adds, "Such were some of you; but you were washed…sanctified…justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ."

Thank God, there is a way out!

On homosexuality as a sin in the New Testament also see 1 Timothy 1:10 and Jude 7. The former links together "immoral men and homosexuals," and the latter speaks of Sodom and Gomorrah as those who "indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh." They are "exhibited as an example, in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire."

Christ is God, the Holy Spirit (God also) inspired the Bible's writing, So when God declared
homosexuality an abomination in the Old Testament, it was in fact Christ (God) who was the one declaring that. So, Christ did say a lot about homosexuality. Everytime God says it in the Bible, Christ (being part of the Godhead) is agreeing with all that is previously written when he proclaims to the Father, "Your word is truth".

John 1 explains that Christ was GOD in the flesh and was (is) the Creator who made everything, including every word written by man to be included in the Bible. This unequivocably solidifies the inerrancy of the Bible and supports God's original proclamations in Scripture that homosexual behavior is sin and an abomination.

Mark, you know its funny, I see my past in things like John says, and than I see who Iam today in a article like this one.

It's sad that people don't realize that through Christ, great change is possible.

I leave you with this thought. Neither you or I, will ever convict someone of their sin, only the Holy Spirit can. Jesus said "Let the blind lead the blind, and they both will fall into the ditch". All you can do is pray for those who are lost, and rejoice for those like this woman in this Article, who was lost, but now is saved by awesome power of our God!

I'm sure most people would be fine with her "conversion", even the most liberal of gays, if she did not act like it was a sickness that needs to be fixed. So many of us went through so much to help our families understand what we're going through, we deal with discrimination in the school, workplace, street, and even in the home if we are unlucky. We have grown through that, fallen in love, grown relationships that have shaped who we are. Many of us, including myself, have only been able to live our lives to the full after we admitted the truth to ourselves and to our loved ones, and God gave us the strength to do this. For someone to call all this, all the families formed and the minds opened, a sickness that needs to be fixed, is a grave mistake.

I'm not saying she shouldn't be happy with herself, Christine, but considering that there are in fact a very minor amount of men and women who even claim to be "ex-gay" in the first place, I hope she had written it knowing that, in terms of her career, she shot herself in the foot.

Mark, we have gone over the passages several times. If you want to argue with my points, feel free t bring them from earlier posts. If you don't feel like it, just accept the fact that we will never agree on bible verse translation and interpretation.

But I will bring one or two of these about, Christine. For one, you obviously use NIV. Homosexuals was not a word until the late nineteenth century, before that it was translated as effiminate....but the hebrew word literally means "soft." Which cpuld mean many things, including "lukewarm," so to speak." And the same word Paul used to describe "unnatural" here was used to describe long hair on men. It's also vague what he was talking abut. So men did nasty things with men. this culd be several things. "Homosexuality, could be one, but first cnsider pederasty, rape, especially that of male war prisoners, popular at that time because it was degrading, orgies, sadomasochism, and a plane of others....homosexuality is a bit of a narrow conclusion to jump to. As for Leviticus, he described girls being on their period as "unclean" as well, and ordered the killing f children who cursed their parents. Stning them at the city gates, in factl Do you believe, Christinie, that Jesus approves of such ideas?

Mark,

Please go and read my comments on Dani's blog... I guess if you care too. I am too tired and sickened about the nonsense between you guys and Deb.

Let the Holy Spirit work and leave her be... please oh please.

I love Jesus, I try and follow His ways with His help... I don't understand the gay lifestyle but it is the Holy Spirit's job to convict not mine.

How about gossip and slander being as evil and sinful as any other sin. Ponder and pray please

Blessings,

Dana

Thank you Christine. That really clears a few things up for me...

So I guess that we all can assume that you "support God's original proclamations in Scripture" laid down in Leviticus and support all of them unequivically, right? Including, of course, the various kinds of animal offerings, the allowance of concubinage, polygamy, divorce and slavery, not eating pork or shellfish, stoning for various infractions including adultry and cursing your parents. You certainly obey all of these rules because, of course, they are the infallible word of god!

Or maybe we can just skip all of that nonsense, cherry-pick a few verses here and there, and concentrate on the real money-maker for the religious right...the "evils" of Homosexuality.

John, did you just get delivered out of Eygpt? If I was you, I'd take a long hard look at Leviticus again and make a mental note that God's Holiness will not be reduced to a man made standard! Then I'd get on my kneees and give thanks! and have a proper fear and reverence for our Holy God.

josiah,
God took the lives of two brothers for building the wrong fire in Leviticus, Aarrons' sons no less! So the answer to your question is YES! Maybe you know what only God's knows, and that's what is in one's heart..i.e. attitude. Nabad and Abihu were eyewitnesses to the many great things God had done. They were as Face to Face with God as we today are not in many ways.

Now (A)Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective (B)firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them.
2(C)And fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD.

3Then Moses said to Aaron, "It is what the LORD spoke, saying,
'By those who (D)come near Me I (E)will be treated as holy,
And before all the people I will (F)be honored.'"
So Aaron, therefore, kept silent.

You know what Mark....

I have been born and raised in a Christian home in the bible belt of Alberta Canada... even a bible school in this town. Went to a Christian school my whole life. Trust me I know all the verses. I am done with that stategy....

I am done with Christians throwing bible verses at each other. What about the fact that Jesus loved everyone.... Jesus loved and loved and loved. He loved and did not judge.

All you are accomplishing is hurting... you hurt instead of pray. You shove your inputs and your bible verses at others instead of pray!! Pray, pray, pray some more.

Deb does not criticize us for being straight!!! Nor should we critize her lifestyle.... you can not fix ANYONE!!!! Why do you try and take Jesus' spot by trying to fix others with what you say.

You have no relationship with her. Why do you think what you say will influence her... you only hurt her and you will give an account to our Lord one day for that unless you make ammends with her.

With that said.... you have freedom of speech but don't attack others because they do not believe the same as you or live the same way you do.

Love God, love others and pray for them. Does God not direct us to pray for those who hurt us.... pray for our enemies.... what do those verses mean to you?

Please leave her alone.. you are giving Christians a bad name...Pray please, just pray. And please apologize and stop this craziness!!! Ask Jesus to help you with this situation.

If you were me Mark, you'd be celebrating 30 years in a loving relationship, knowing that God has smiled on you and blessed you every step of the way. That's what you'd be giving thanks for.

So save your hell-fire and damnation please.

Mark said...

So save your hell-fire and damnation please.

Perhaps what you call 'hell-fire damnation' another calls the word of God. No one but you john as brought up your personal relationships. If by 'celebrating' you mean what God has called sin, then I won't be at the party.

Take 2,

That is where you have gone wrong, when you say the Bible is no longer useful in dealing with sin, you might as well throw it in the trash and call yourself a Athiest.

I believe in Loving and caring about people who are in sin as well, and I believe Mark does as well. He's screaming fire in a burning building, just because some may not hear it, does not mean others won't. Mark can be a little hot headed, but that is who Mark is.

Let me point out that many of these Gay activist come looking for people like Mark, why? Because darkness is always drawn to the light, and when they see it, they hate it.

I have been speaking with Charlene, and she is a wonderful Woman of God, she has not viciously attacked Homosexuals, all she is saying is there is a way out, and God bless her for sharing such a strong message of the Power of Christ!

John said...

I only brought up my relationship to illustrate the fact that there are many long-term loving gay realationships out there that mean something and are just the same as any straight relationship. And here's a big surprise Mark. You wouldn't be invited...

Josiah said...

Well then, Mark, I CERTIANLY hope yu're ready to kill your children for the times they've disobeyed you. Yu quote from Leviticus to denounce homosexuality, but when someone asks why you ignore the other laws, you point out the fact that we're not Jews living in the desert, therefore making your first comment bunk. Which you won't admit.

Mark said...

Rob,
God Bless you brother! & thank you.

John,
Your relationship of over 30 years, which I do NOT believe, means nothing to me. It is NOT what God desires or offers as His will in any life! It is what You and your partner have accepted as Godly. There is a difference.

Sounds to me like you don't need Christ, nor His word. You only need a feeling and if you have it and your worldly flesh is satisfied, then you have the ungodly nerve to call it Holy.

I see a snake in a tree whispering in your ear john.

Mark said...

josiah,
Take offense, your an idiot! and you can't read!

Mark said...

Joshia says

Yu quote from Leviticus to denounce homosexuality,

I see you posting comments again yourself and not someone else, good boy!

Please quote where I have used Lev to 'denounce' homosexuality?

What part of my comment did you just get delivered out of Eygpt? If I was you, I'd take a long hard look at Leviticus again and make a mental note that God's Holiness will not be reduced to a man made standard! Then I'd get on my knees and give thanks! and have a proper fear and reverence for our Holy God.
...are you Chase, having a hard time understanding?

Josiah said...

"John, did you just get delivered out of Eygpt? If I was you, I'd take a long hard look at Leviticus again and make a mental note that God's Holiness will not be reduced to a man made standard!"

So, in other words. Yur children deserve death. And I do too. It IS, after all, "God's unchanging word." And of course, Jesus approves of the laws too. Which is why he stopped the stoning of a woman in the first place (which, if you think about it, shows a lot about his opinion on capital punishment.)

Pick one or the other. Don't go quoting verses of books that you generally ignore just because one of the hundreds of rules supports your religious views, despite the fact that you follow practically none of them.

Ah, Mark, at least I'm not an idiot who resorts to mindless insults that a pre-schooler could top in complexity, insults which are the product of a man who can't think outside of what his religious authority figures have told him, who only uses these insults, or a simpler blocking, because he himself knows that no amount of research supports his claims, this man being in denial of the fact that he is a dying breed of people that that would be supporting slavery if the confederacy was still alive, a people that held such thoughts on tolerance that should have died out long ago in the first place, that only survives because a few people still bring their children t be brainwashed every sunday by the pastor of their local, conservative church who raves about the evils of homosexuals, Muslims, and liberals, while he himself, a self-proclaimed man of God, lives in a house comparable to the palace of Versailles. You may think me a fool, Mark, but if I am, which I don't believe, at least I'm nt delusional about my place, unlike so many I see here, including a certain poster.

You said yourself Mark, "Yes" to my question. Which means you believe Jesus would support all the laws laid down in Leviticus. So why don't you?

Mark said...

WOW! Looks like Mark has hit a sore spot. Thanks for accusing me of a very very long list of accusations you could spend a life time attempting to justify, josiah.

Now let's address your comment's over all question:

So, in other words. Yur children deserve death. And I do too.

YES! BINGO! we have a winner! Yes Chase, we all deserve death. Christ on the Cross ring a bell boy?

Which means you believe Jesus would support all the laws laid down in Leviticus. So why don't you?

I do!

I have never questioned the notion that all sin REQUIRES a response. Especially to God's face! Maybe you are confused about being a Hebrew? or is it you just don't like cutting a goat's neck and shedding blood? I don't like that either, so we have something in common perhaps. Perhaps reading Lev as a book ABOUT God and His Holiness, His commands are NOT to be taken lightly, and those He just rescued with real LIVE miracles (parting a sea for instance), might help you Chase.
Then Think of Christ! Why do you Chase, think those who don't like the Biblical text or study the text always ask about God's judgement? hummm

Ah, Mark, at least I'm not an idiot who resorts to mindless insults that a pre-schooler could top in complexity, insults which are the product of a man who can't think outside of what his religious authority figures have told him,

btw josiah, my only authority is God's perfect word, no man or Reverend. What's yours?

You may think me a fool, Mark

Not at all! Just a smart ass 17 year old with no real Bible study and a lot to say. Reminds me of myself, except I did my homework and I never felt free to shit talk to an adult like you feel free to. Ahhh times have changed, eh?

For example
being in denial of the fact that he is a dying breed of people that that would be supporting slavery if the confederacy was still alive,

Would a simple Screw You Chase be ok? I think you've probably heard that before no? many times perhaps? OH MY FAULT! THAT'S BECAUSE YOU ARE GAY!!!!!!!!!!NOT BIBLICALLY IGNORANT OR JUST PLAIN ASS-LIKE! sorry.

That will happen when one makes up insulting lies about another. Take a deep breath and perhaps you can get back on topic before the next hate crime happens here again.

:) love you!

People are starting to see the true characters of these types of people. Their demonic behavior has been revealed. I truly believe they are all of Satan. He comes as an angel of light, then spews and foams at the mouth, seething over anyone who dares to disagree with them.

Hebrews 13: 15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;

16 that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.

17 For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

See the word repetance Deb? and do you also see the consequences of not? I pray one day you do.

Good point, TMW. Deb's argument seems to be that Jesus' fulfillment of the debt we could never pay also has "done away with" the Law and the Prophets. We continue to show her Scripture verses that tell her she's wrong about that, but it just doesn't seem to "compute" with her!

I tried to explain the difference between fulfillment of the Law verses the destruction (abolishment) of the Law in the 8th comment in this thread, but apparently she has decided not to respond.

Deb is a nice person. Her motives appear to be sincere, but on this subject she is sincerely wrong! Therefore, her spreading of the current movement called "gay" theology must be countered!

As Bible-based Christians, we cannot just stand by and watch the true Gospel of Christ be twisted into a heresy that leads to apostasy!

Thanks for being an uncompromising Christian believer who is not afraid to counter the "gay" Christian agenda. I hope you will consider visiting my blog at Talkwisdom and share some thoughts!

God bless in Christ,
Christine
