When the Seminaries have no interest in scriptural truth

"[N]o matter how good [theologian Dr. Robert Gagnon's] arguments are, the conclusions he comes to are patently bigoted, so I reject them regardless of what apparent veracity they may have. Frankly, if Jesus Christ pried open the skies and leaned down into my living room right now and said 'Doug, it is a sin to be homosexual,' I'd say 'Okay Jesus, that makes things simple—I'm not Christian anymore. Now go away.'"

- San Francisco Theological Seminary (PCUSA) student Doug Hagler, objecting to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary professor Robert Gagnon's arguments against the compatibility of homosexual behavior with Christian practice.

Dr. Gagnon's web site. Well worth the visit!

So his faith, depends on his ability to pursue fleshly desires? Thats not faith, thats looking for a religion of convenience, not truth!

Just goes to show how "genuine," "deep," and "faithful" to Christ such an individual as Doug Hagler is.

His words easily (and hopelessly) condemn him. His words are so blatantly revealing of the fact that he is, and has been, a false convert.

Anyone can see that he's got heresy up the ying yang.

Oops...sorry...probably shouldn't have used that particular analogy!

I'm so glad that you shared this Mark. It just goes to show that the gcm heresy is not a trivial matter. It's an eternal life and death issue!

Those who claim that homosexual behavior is not sin and falsely claim that it is a "gift from God" truly reveal how far gone they really are. But this quote shows where, such a disasterous deception as this can lead someone!

This student has tragically gone from heresy, all the way to an "in your face, Jesus" ugly kind of blatant apostasy!!

This just has to be one of the most tragic things I have ever read. Giving up a relationship, and eternal life with the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ, is better than giving up a sexual sin?

Awful. Just awful!!

False convert right there.

This hard-hearted quote reminds me of when the Bible reveals that Esau gave up his inheritance for a bowl of stew.

Gen 25:30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red [pottage]; for I [am] faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

Gen 25:31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.

Gen 25:32 And Esau said, Behold, I [am] at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

Gen 25:33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

Gen 25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised [his] birthright

A temporary physical need was satisfied while a much more important long-lasting inheritance was given up by Esau.

But this "theological seminary" student's attitude is a hundred times worse!

You are exactly right Christine. This student remains an enemy of God in the worse sense!

Ah, I see you've done it before. I guess I'll have to Google myself more often to see who is discussing me without at least informing me.

Middle School, man.

Oh well. At least you provided an actual link in a later post.

That is one of the most sadly amusing things I've ever read in my life. Surely you can't be serious.

Let's examine exactly what's wrong with this sort of statement, shall we?

Ahem.

"Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you."

Now, which of you is closer to following the commandment of our Lord in this regard? Doug, who refuses to condemn people for the simple biological fact of their being attracted to their own gender, or the lot of you for not only totally misrepresenting Doug's position and setting him up as a convenient Straw-Man, but for condemning him as a heretic and an apostate for disagreeing with your position on the matter?

You band of hypocrites! First remove the plank from your own eyes: then you will see clearly to remove the speck of dust from Doug's.

Ahem Paul,

If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also.

Do not sin back when someone sins against you.

If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic

Our Lord Jesus saw many times the Romans uprooting the Jews. Hence, remain the example of His children so they too many seek God.

Doug, who refuses to condemn people for the simple biological fact of their being attracted to their own gender,

Did you just throw out there biological ? Secondly I did not condemn anyone. I provided sound Biblical doctrine that is clear and holds all authority. Please provide one biblical text that is even apathatic towards homosexual acts or holding the scripture as anything but the complete authortative word of God?

When a man calls the Bible uninspired, unprofitable, and inadequate, he is indeed a false teacher and anti-Christ. There is no grey area, you are either with Jesus or not.

May I suggest 2 Timothy 3:16 to you.
