Dumping Sola Scriptura

[The problem is] "the idea that the Bible is the sole source of knowledge of God, morality, and a host of related important items. Accordingly, the Bible is taken to be the sole authority for faith and practice.”

J.P.Moreland quoted in "Postcard from San Diego:Fighting 'Bibliolatry' at the Evangelical Theological Society,"
by Ted Olsen, Christianity Today, 11/14/07.
We don’t need less commitment to the Bible we need more – a lot more. We need a fresh reverence, love and respect for the Bible. It should not be the basis of speculation and debate but rather of obedience and practice. We need preachers who will unreservedly commit to the Bible, the whole Bible and nothing but the Bible. We need men who will “preach the word” (2Timothy 4:2) without fear or favor. We need Christians who are humble enough to believe God’s Word, no matter what others say or think. And we need churches that are committed to actually expect their members to live according to the Bible. In short – we need to get back to the Bible. Heretics like Moreland should be excommunicated publicly. Schools, and the products of the schools, that harbor such unbelievers should be shunned. Churches should not accept preachers that have studied under such men or in such seminaries. [bold mine.]

Will it preach?

A Photographic Art Exhibit on the Word Faith "Gospel"

So-called Christian preachers are living in extravagant wealth while preaching a self-centered ‘gospel’ of prosperity. Two of the most popular proponents of this false gospel of wealth and self-centeredness are Joel Osteen and Paula White. We’ve taken the artwork for their ‘messages’ and taken them out of their American context to see if they will “preach” in war torn Iraq, Darfur and Rwanda.

Paula White’s message is “Celebrate You”.
Joel Osteen’s message is “Your Best Life Now”

Compare this to the Message of Biblical Gospel

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus...” - Romans 3:23-24

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” - John 3:16 -17

Trinity defense

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

The prologue to John's gospel makes a precise identification of Christ with Wisdom, describing the Logos' Christological role (1:3), its role as the ground of human knowledge (1:9) and as the mediator of special revelation (1:14) -- the three roles of the pre-existent Logos/Wisdom. In calling Jesus God's Logos, John was affirming Jesus' eternality and ontological oneness with the Father by connecting him with the Wisdom tradition.

There are approximately 120 passages in the New Testament in which for no reason at all the Father, the Son, the Spirit are mentioned together. Consider Peter speaking in Acts 2:32-33.

32 "This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.
33 "Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.

How in the world did Peter, an heir of Jewish monotheism, ever come to the point of referring to God, Jesus, and the Spirit in such a casual manner without one iota of an explanation or even a defense?

Because it was very much a part of the early church language that the christian community shared. It would only be natural for Peter to speak as such. This is how the trinity was revealed to the world and this is how, Jew and Gentile have come to believe in the Father, the Son, and the Spirit.

The Old Testament prepared their minds to retain only one true and living God. It taught that God is constantly and most assuredly involved in history. Finally the Old Testament prepared their minds with the concept of a corporate personality (Israel was both individual and a nation).

The New testament writers do not record a trinity doctrine. It does however record a history, a faith, a common life, and 120 Trinitarian texts that collectively make the revelation of the Trinity. In that faith by the fourth century, the church had developed the doctrine.

The 120 passages:

Matt 1:18-23, 3:16-17, 4:1-3, 10:20, 12:18, 12:28,12:31-32, 22:43, 28:19 Mark

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age"

The half truth of AIDS - anybody can get it

With the upcoming Rick Warren AIDS conference and the recent news that DC has 10 times the national average infection rate, it's time for a dose of reality.

Reality Risks:
1. Having intimate relations with someone infected.
2. Sharing needles.
3. Direct contact with infected body fluids.
footnote: just as it was over 30 years ago, anal sex among men is still the highest at risk group.

Perhaps at the Rick Warren AIDS conference there will be discussions on getting the medical community to report AIDS as they are required by law to report other communicable diseases like the measles, syphilis, meningitis etc.. If I am not mistaken, folks can go to jail who refuse treatment of these conditions. On the other hand, AIDS is secret, anonymous, and requires no partner notification type epidemic. It's cure apparently is more cultural sensitivity and less uncomfortable facts, lest we offend the out and proud activist.

When the CDC and other like minded blame homophobia on the spread of AIDS, I submit to you they have not a clue, nor do they really desire to address the real issues surrounding sexual immorality. Why? That would force them to recognize a source of morality and put them in the most uncomfortable position of being subject to judgement.

Sex outside of marriage is destructive.
Homosexuality is destructive.
Drug use is destructive.
Lieing is destructive.

God didn't give us His law to make us miserable, He gave it because He loves and cares about us.

Archbishop Tutu's biblically unfaithful apostasy

Tutu hits out at Church on attitude to gays

"If God, as they say, is homophobic, I wouldn't worship that God."

100% of the verses addressing homosexual behavior denounce it as sin in the strongest possible terms.

100% of the verses referencing God’s ideal for marriage involve one man and one woman.

100% of the verses referencing parenting involve moms and dads with unique roles (or at least a set of male and female parents guiding the children).

0% of 31,173 Bible verses refer to homosexual behavior in a positive or even benign way or even hint at the acceptability of homosexual unions.

Indeed, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu does not worship God, he worships an idol. I dare say Jesus Christ may not know him at all.

"Our world is facing problems - poverty, HIV and Aids - a devastating pandemic, and conflict,"

Our world will continue to face problems until Christ returns. Poverty is quite relative, nor is it a sin. If Tutu is truly interested in peace, he'll become a slave first. That will require living for a different purpose.

"In the face of all of that, our Church, especially the Anglican Church, at this time is almost obsessed with questions of human sexuality."

Actually, the church will and should be obsessed with the God's word, His authority, and His truth. The church should be a holy place where sin is despised. When did one's sexual desires become Lord? Like I said, he worships an idol, not God.

Rick Warren, AIDS, and a church

Source: Senator Hillary Clinton (D-New York) will join Rick Warren at his California church this month for an AIDS conference.

Warren says he has invited several other presidential candidates from both parties to attend his third annual Global Summit on AIDS, but Senator Clinton is the only one, so far, to confirm. According to a press release, others who have expressed interest and currently are dealing with scheduling issues include GOP presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Rudy Giuliani, and Democrats John Edwards and Senator Barak Obama (D-Illinois).

According to Warren, "Inviting politicians from different perspectives to the Summit is not a political decision -- it is a humanitarian and Christian action."

"Christian action"? Who is he kidding?

Attention Rick Warren:
We already know lots of people know who Jesus Christ is. The question you should be asking yourself and others; does Jesus Christ know you?

Rick Warren does not have the intestinal fortitude to break fellowship with those who corrupt, distort, and deny the authority of scripture. In fact, giving them a global platform under the flag of 'Christianity' is nothing short of a bold act of defiance towards God and his word.

Gay theology & Cults

Source: GCMW

Gay church theology ranks among the most egregious forms of biblical errancy confronting the Christian church today. Its two-sided operationality encompasses all aspects of its evil desires. Side A is an intoxicating mix of feel good philosophy, promises of safety, well placed cultural platitudes, and a religious veneer bathed in the coating of false love. This is the gay christian movement’s public face. Side B, the one intentionally hidden from public view, is an agressive mix of pride, arrogance, vulgarity, vengeance, and lust. This is the gay christian movement’s private face.

Many Christians coming in contact with gay theology are unsuspecting of its deceitful web because personal biblical study isn’t being stressed in Christian churches. Gay theology, with its broad declarations of “radical inclusion” and “loving acceptance” of all people is seductive to the many hurt and wounded walking in the religious realm. It sounds good to the ear and appeals to the carnal man. Its the same tactic used against Eve in the garden.

Satan’s intent is not to frighten man, but rather seduce him with things and words and which appear on the surface beautiful, welcoming and harmless. This is why the gay christian movement hates the tough language the bible uses to battle sin. They avoid it at all costs, while instead focusing on broad issues of love minus moral restrictions.

Jihad news ignored

AP Source: Dozens of schoolchildren and five teachers were among those killed in a suicide attack in northern Afghanistan earlier this week — the country’s deadliest since the fall of the Taliban — the government said Friday.

The 59 schoolchildren had lined up to greet a group of lawmakers visiting a sugar factory in the northern province of Baghlan on Tuesday when a suicide bomber detonated explosives.
“The education minister has ordered that no children should be ever again be used in these sort of events,” said Zahoor Afghan, an Education Ministry spokesman. He said the children ranged in age from 8 to 18.

In all, the explosion claimed the lives at least 75 people, including several parliamentarians, and wounded 96. It was the deadliest attack in the country since the toppling of Taliban regime from power in the 2001 U.S.-led invasion.

Global Warming - man made myth

“It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create in allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the ‘research’ to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus... I do not oppose environmentalism. I do not oppose the political positions of either party. However, Global Warming, ie Climate Change, is not about environmentalism or politics. It is not a religion. It is not something you ‘believe in.’ It is science; the science of meteorology. This is my field of life-long expertise. And I am telling you Global Warming is a non-event, a manufactured crisis and a total scam. I say this knowing you probably won’t believe a me, a mere TV weatherman, challenging a Nobel Prize, Academy Award and Emmy Award winning former Vice President of United States. So be it... There is no run away climate change. The impact of humans on climate is not catastrophic. Our planet is not in peril... In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious. As the temperature rises, polar ice cap melting, coastal flooding and super storm pattern all fail to occur as predicted everyone will come to realize we have been duped. The sky is not falling.”

Warning signs of rejecting Christ

Too many Christians fail to understand God is about "love and truth", not "wrath and punishment," says homosexual Rev Jeffery John.

This anti-Christ Reverend also believes that Christ's blood shed on the cross for the sins of the world is "insane".

If those in the liberal gay affirming church believe God is void of wrath and punishment, they must trash the Scriptures completely. Salvation history has become a fairy tale to them no matter how much secular evidence there is to the contrary. The Bible has become nothing more than a book to them. A book they may change, corrupt, and deny when it meets their earthly purpose. This is not about theological interpretation disagreements among believers, it is apostasy!

"Some people come into this world with affections ordered toward other people of the same gender, and some people come into this world with affections directed at people of the other gender." says the Episcopal Church's Presiding homosexual Bishop Katherine Schori

I wonder when sadomasochists (those folks who have affections towards pain is pleasure) will get invited to play "scourge the jesus" in the Episcopal church?

The anti-Christ bishop goes on to say in a sermon "That sweaty, bloody, tear-stained cross bears life. Our Mother Jesus gives birth to a new creation, and we are his children."

How long can she act and speak in rebellion to God's word before her followers will wake up and see the utter wickedness she embraces and teaches. Her speech should be recognized as clearly contradictory even to the most undiscerning ear. These folks are nothing more than paganized christians in an orgy of corrupting scripture. It is no surprise to me at all that they adhere to a god that has no judgement.

Jude 4 For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

5 Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.

If you are being tempted to reject the authority of scripture, you are being tempted to reject Christ.

"Gays" imposing their false religion on all

Source; Bold mine.

[My] understanding is that the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment was intended to prevent the establishment of a state religion, not to prevent religious values from informing political decisions. Since people from many religious faiths and no religious faith have long agreed upon the essential place of sexual complementarity in the nurturance of the next generation, laws that reflect those convictions hardly seem a violation of the Establishment Clause. One could argue that those who attend houses of worship that support legalized same-sex unions are similarly attempting to enshrine in law their religious beliefs.

The idea of a separation of church and state no longer points to the importance of protecting religious freedom from the intrusive power of the state but instead refers to coercively eradicating religious expression from the public square. Only secularism, a worldview as shaped by myopic, dogmatic, unproved assumptions (as some argue religious views are), will be tolerated.

Illegitimate discrimination refers to unfavorable treatment of others based on ignorance. Discrimination, however, can also refer to discriminating between right and wrong, in which case it is an essential personal and civic activity. Conflating the two meanings of discrimination, or asserting that all negative judgments reflect prejudice, represents demagoguery. Principled opposition to homosexuality no more embodies illegitimate discrimination than does principled opposition to polyamory or adult consensual incest.

...If I love and am attracted to my brother or five people of assorted genders, why should an intolerant, prejudiced society be permitted to impose those moral views on me?

Ms. Higgins has clearly offended those in rebellion to God. I pray others will take notice, speak, and seek God's truth in His holy word. God's judgement has always come to men and women that do what is right in their own eye, and not God's.

Thankfully God is faithful even when we are not. Change your flag, your heart, and your allegiance. Pride will have no place in God's kingdom. It will never be about you, it will always be about God and His Kingship. Jesus on the cross tore down the curtain that separates us from Him. Repent, submit, and rejoice.

ATTENTION: Pastors and Elders!

A must read letter addressed to Pastors and Elders! Thanks to Gay Christian Movement Watch!

Dear Pastors and Elders,

Many Christians are confused, discouraged, and even more troubling, seduced by the relentless assaults on biblical truth waged by the culture of homosexuality that tirelessly pursues its goal of total cultural acceptance by infiltrating our churches, schools, families, and the media. This confusion, discouragement, and seduction are exacerbated by the relative silence of the church. The church must end its silence, and begin the difficult work of helping adults and children understand both the scriptural and secular arguments used to normalize homosexuality. The stubborn rebellious assaults on Scripture include the “homosexualized” revision of the stories of David and Jonathan, Ruth and Naomi, and Sodom and Gomorrah, as well as the wholesale dismissal of St. Paul’s indictment of homosexuality.

Christianity is corrupted by the pursuit of personal fulfillment, radical autonomy, and the realization of earthly ambitions. The flock no longer sees itself as fundamentally distinct from the surrounding culture. Some erroneously assume that the presence and potential discomfort of unbelievers in the Church should circumscribe or determine what is taught. They erroneously believe that hard truths serve as an obstacle to salvation. But retreat from expositions of sin does not make conversion more likely. Quite the contrary, many of us come to the cross via a painful recognition of our own dark sin.

Too many believers, spiritual leaders, and teachers are unprepared to fight the type of spiritual, intellectual, and socio-political battles that two thousand years of our predecessors in the Church accepted as their inescapable duty. Only a relatively small army of dedicated believers have been holding the fort while the rest of us decide whether or not to fight. We are on the sidelines, imprisoned, first, by our own material and social preoccupations, and second, by the daily and weekly maintenance of the house of God itself. But neither of these is our highest calling in a desperately confused and dying world. As satanic ideas about sexuality perpetuate, we must arm ourselves for battle where the Enemy is attacking.

On the subject of homosexuality, our young people face diabolical attempts at indoctrination in high school, in college, and in the mass media. Adults and children encounter a daily barrage of images and messages that promote the idea that homosexuality is good, right, and “cool,” and that opposition to that view constitutes cruelty and injustice. They see and hear those messages in television shows, films, plays, books, magazines, advertisements, the news, music, and from their friends and teachers. Tragically the response from their churches is largely a deafening silence. The Church cannot continue to treat this danger as a minor issue. We must do some serious thinking and study in order to address competently the specious and malignant arguments permeating society.

Believers, including pastors and elders, ignore at great peril the command: “Be not conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Acceptance and practice of homosexual and bisexual behavior, and support for civil unions and same-sex “marriage” are growing rapidly among young people, even Christians. If young Christians come to view Scripture as untrustworthy on sexual matters, they will find it untrustworthy on other matters as well. The Barna Research group has published a study indicating that young Christians are falling away from Christ in huge numbers at college. The dangers are real, imminent, and closer to home than many older Christians realize.

We must be willing and determined to address these grave moral and spiritual deceptions without hint of concession to the world. The temptation to soften biblical truth on culturally controversial matters is powerful even within “Bible-believing” churches today. But as God’s messengers, yielding to this temptation is not our right. Can censoring of God’s Word or even soft-pedaling to accommodate anyone be seen at any point in the recorded words of Christ? In the words of Moses or Jeremiah? Isaiah? Hosea? Habakkuk? John the Baptist? Any of the Reformers? In the revival evangelists whose warnings set free a spiritual fire in this country? If anyone comes to Christ on their own terms, they have not come to Christ, but to an idol made in their own image.

Christ saw into the soul and identified exactly which obstacle prevented a person from finding salvation. Think of his words to the rich young ruler, and to the Pharisees, scribes and lawyers. The hard truths were the ones He placed as the obstacle between them and the Kingdom of Heaven. Many went away or hated Him. If pastors have lost sight of this, they have lost sight of Christ.

In the face of this sweeping spiritual and cultural assault, where, if not the church, do our pastors think their followers will be taught truth? And who, if not the church, will equip them with an understanding of the revisionist “pro-gay” scriptural arguments as well as the substance of and flaws in the secular arguments? Who, if not the church, will provide both teens and adults with answers so that they will be able to engage intelligently and compassionately with the culture, and so that they themselves are not deceived by seductive lies?

Hear the prescient words of Martin Luther:If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.

We must stand tall in the face of the enemies of the Eternal Living God. We must seek the approval of a just and holy God, not the approval of a fallen and rebellious world at war with God. The powers of darkness lose something that matters when we obey Christ and renounce the spirits of fear, apathy, and conformity. To retreat from speaking the truth about homosexuality boldly and to fail to prepare Christians for cultural engagement while the pernicious lie that God loves homosexuality consumes the minds and hearts of our youth is a grievous, unconscionable abdication of responsibility.

It is God’s will that His shepherds disciple and train ordinary members of His body to be mighty warriors, bringing truth to the world outside the church. There is no greater honor than to be used as little David was, to stand before the giant and proclaim the incorruptible holiness and omnipotence of God, to defend His little ones, and let fly the stones He has commanded us to pick up from the stream and place in our bag for the moment of battle.

Listed below are some of the secular arguments used to normalize homosexuality which pastoral staff and elders should understand and for which they need to provide answers to the body of Christ. Teaching could be provided through sermons, Sunday school classes, evening or weekend seminars, or small groups. Certainly, a pastor or youth group leader ought not to preach or teach on homosexuality continually, but to do virtually nothing in the face of such persistent and persuasive attacks on the biblical understanding of homosexuality portends tragedy in all its forms: psychological, emotional, physical, relational, and most important, spiritual. Timidity on the part of leadership weakens the church and renders it complicit, albeit unintentionally, with our cultural degradation.

At different times in history, the enemy chooses different scriptural truths to attack with ferocity, and the church must respond accordingly. During the middle part of the 20th Century, Martin Luther King Jr., following in the footsteps of his namesake, confessed Christ boldly as the church faced, not an assault on sexuality, but an assault on the inherent dignity and equality of all men. But the truths he spoke in “Letter From Birmingham Jail” resonate today as we face yet another assault on truth:

I have been so greatly disappointed with the white church and its leadership. . . . too many . . . have been more cautious than courageous and have remained silent behind the anesthetizing security of stained-glass windows. . . . I have looked at the South’s beautiful churches with their lofty spires pointing heavenward. I have beheld the impressive outlines of her massive religious-education buildings. Over and over I have found myself asking: “What kind of people worship here? Who is their God? . . .

I have heard many ministers say: “Those are social issues, with which the gospel has no real concern.” And I have watched many churches commit themselves to a completely other worldly religion which makes a strange, non-biblical distinction between body and soul, between the sacred and the secular.

In deep disappointment, I have wept over the laxity of the church. . . . I see the church as the body of Christ. But, oh! How we have blemished and scarred that body through social neglect and through fear of being nonconformists.

There was a time when the church was very powerful in the time when the early Christians rejoiced at being deemed worthy to suffer for what they believed. In those days the church was not merely a thermometer that recorded the ideas and principles of popular opinion; it was a thermostat that transformed the mores of society. Whenever the early Christians entered a town, the people in power became disturbed and immediately sought to convict the Christians for being “disturbers of the peace” and “outside agitators”‘ But the Christians pressed on, in the conviction that they were “a colony of heaven,” called to obey God rather than man. Small in number, they were big in commitment. They were too God intoxicated to be “astronomically intimidated.” By their effort and example they brought an end to such ancient evils as infanticide, and gladiatorial contests.

Things are different now. So often the contemporary church is a weak, ineffectual voice with an uncertain sound. So often it is an archdefender of the status quo. Par from being disturbed by the presence of the church, the power structure of the average community is consoled by the church’s silent and often even vocal sanction of things as they are.

But the judgment of God is upon the church as never before. If today’s church does not recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early church, it will lose its authenticity, forfeit the loyalty of millions, and be dismissed as an irrelevant social club with no meaning for the twentieth century.

I have no illusions; this work is difficult. But God is on His throne and calls us to carry His Cross: “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Cor. 12:10).

In Christ alone,
