Laws, laws, and more laws...
Christians should recognize the purpose of God's law, they should also recognize what it can't do - it does not reconcile one back to God or bring about salvation. The law never saved anyone in the Old Testament nor does it in the New Testament. Righteousness is not found in the law, it is found in the blood of Christ.
Galatians 3: 21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.
So, with all the recent new laws being passed about same sex marriages etc... our response should be these laws are wrong because the Bible says they are wrong - they violate Truth. To do otherwise gives the appearance the Bible is not the standard of eternal Truths. It leads folks to think the authority of God's word - the Truth, is no longer determined by God, but by political parties or particular social movements. If, and I believe it is, the Christian's goal is to bring the gospel of Christ to those living in darkness, we must keep our priorities in line with the gospel - which at the very center is Christ! Even if the CA same sex marriage law is done away with, who among those living a lie - bound for eternal Hell, will be closer to the Truth of Christ?
Let us remember the environment and world Paul preached in - under the brutal rule of Nero. We, in the west, have not yet seen anything like Nero's rule as Paul did! I would submit to you that in 2008 the body of Christ is growing in dramatic numbers in nations that face the greatest persecutions and yet have the worst civil liberties and freedoms most Americans take for granted. Europe and most Western societies have the most "freedom" and their Churches are empty and or they are spewing anything but the Gospel of Christ. Christ doesn't need world governments or new laws to build His church! He Himself promised He would build it. Don't tell me you know Jesus, ask yourself if He knows you.
Matthew 7: 22"Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'
23"And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
23"And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
If all the "greatest" christian politicians, teachers, and ministers in the world don't use the Bible for their moral arguments - it is all in vain. Practical principles applied to society has its place, but it never replaces the Truth - the gospel of Christ. God's law remains eternal and written on every human heart. To trim down God's word in order to eliminate the offensive parts - the tough talk about sin, the exclusivity of Christ, or the call to obedience; is nothing short of an act of rebellion and defiance. To redefine its utter clarity, to reinterpret the text's supernatural acts of miracles, the incarnation, the physical resurrection, and virgin birth to satisfy a liberal theology clinging to naturalistic worldview; will indeed bring God's judgement.
The Bible says that God prepared hell for the devil and his demonic cohorts (Matthew 25:41), that He is "...not wishing for any [person] to perish but for all to come to repentance." (II Peter 3:9), and that He has done everything possible to save us from that terrible, terrible place. Yet in the end God will not violate or overrule the deliberate choice of those who consciously and willfully turn away from Him. --Daryl E. Witmer of AIIA Institute
The battle is and always will be about what is Truth - God delivered it to us and sealed it with the blood of Christ.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
