Resisting the Enemy - rebuking not required

With the great number of false teachings that have been let loose on the church, past and present, we must ask ourselves that age old question any Christian should ask - is it True?

Are we called to "rebuke" Satan or demonic forces? Are Christians called to heal the sick or cast out demonic forces (often times called sin demons) in the name of Christ?

The answer is - No!

The only weapon anyone needs - the word of God. Jesus did what when tempted by Satan? He resisted Satan with the word of God! What happened? Satan departed.

Those who support any of this spiritual warfare nonsense have abandoned the word of God (there ONLY weapon) - as all false teachings do and are ultimately speaking on Satan's behalf. The sole purpose of Miracles and Signs were to establish apostolic credentials - 2 Cor. 12:12 - The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with all perseverance, by signs and wonders and miracles. Think about it - if all believers were able to preform miracles Paul would have had no reason to say that it was a True sign of apostleship. The apostles had a unique authority and ministry. The apostles had personally seen the Lord and had been taught by Him. Does anyone today have these credentials? Does Todd Bentley of Lakeland? No!

Remember when the religious leaders demanded that Christ give them a sign - Matthew 12:39 - " But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;". Even while Christ hung on the Cross they mocked Him shouting - Matthew 27:42 - "He saved others; He cannot save Himself He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him."

If you need a "sign" or "miracle" after you have willfully turned a deaf ear and unrepentant heart to God's word - you stand convicted no matter what "miracle" moves you.

If you want or need a "miracle" in your life, if you battle sin and desire to resist Satan and your fleshly (worldly) desires / temptations - you need to focus on God's word and His eternal promises. No one needs any signs, miracles, or any other sensationalized evidence - the evidence already exists folks - the word of God! What you need is new eyes and new ears - that is what the Holy Spirit provides.

Paul nor any other ever "rebuked" Satan, they pursued holiness and obedience until death - living faith. We are to present ourselves as living sacrifices to God, set apart to God, and totally "transformed" wearing the armor of God everyday and under all circumstances - Ephesians 6:11 and 13.

We have never had authority over Satan or demonic forces - only God does! Once we are saved, it's a done deal - instantaneous! No rebuking, no casting out demons etc... 1 Cor 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Man... Mark you are so right a torrent of false teachers has been unleashed on the church. Probably in one of it weakest hours. Many are so caught up in git it, grab it, keep it mentality that they pay not attention to God's Word. But the Lord said he would send a famine for his Word.
People are starving for truth and it seems every where they turn there is nothing on the menu except rotten, false doctrine and lies.

Hey brother,
The good news - it provides a God given opportunity, just like in the past, to proclaim the Truth - rebuke our "brothers and sisters" which in fact is nothing short of an act of grace. I thank God folks like yourself continue to serve and feed the Truth in the midst of starving hostility.

For a long time Ive been saying that something is missing in the churches,my church as well.
We are tought to believe in miracles and healings.
The healings that the deciples did were instant and clear to see.We dont ever see that,or I never have.
I do believe in healing and know it happens.
Many times Ive heard,"I bind this spirit in the name of Jesus" or I rebuke you satan in the name of Jesus.Ive done it many times myself but it just never seemed to work but I can start to read the Bible or start worshiping and that works every time.
Check this out,God had asigned a spirit to torment Saul,David was Summond with his harp, so David shows up and starts to worship God with his harp, and that spirit;now get this;a spirit assigned by God Himself could not stay in the presence of worship to God.
Satan hates and is extremly jealous of God.He wants to be like God and be worshipped like God.
Talking to satan and his demons does seem to aknowledge him rather than overcoming him.
Your statement is absolutly right Mark.I dont know how I didnt see this before.Thank you brother.

Hey Roy,
You know your comment brings to thought another thing I did not expound on in my post - God uses Satan and his demons, indeed he did with Paul and the thorn. It kept Paul's from boasting because of his unique situation with our Lord. We are told to resist temptation by turning to God's eternal word and promises - puting on the full armor of God - never a technique or repeated prayer or rebuking. God alone controls Satan and his legion of demons.

It is often good to remember, even those healed and raised from the dead eventually died. God's Sov. purposes always will be accomplished and quite frankly our greatest "healing" as already occured - the work of Christ on the Cross.

God Bless and nice to hear from you!

Hey Mark - great post.

I've seen many good Christians, and "not-so-good" Christians falling for this. Many have been calling me to tell me about the "Florida Outpouring."

After watching a bit of it myself to see what was going on, I was saddened for my friends. How they so desire a "miracle" or "sign/wonder" to show others how much God really loves them.

Also, several "super-spiritual" Christians (the ones who seem to know more than God about Himself) are falling for this, too.

These people have such a deep need to have that "super-spiritual experience" -- to know that they are special -- that they have value -- that they are "children of the Most High."

I pray that their spiritual eyes will be TRULY opened to the deception they are so easily falling for.

Thanks for bringing this post to your readers' attention.

I looked up all of the places the word rebuked was used in the bible and no where did I find satan or spirits being rebuked.I did however find in 1 Timothy 4:14 something about laying on of the hands by the elders.
Its this verse that is Quoted that make people believe in laying on hands to heal sickness.
Im a little confused about this.I see this all the time and we are told that the healing will take time to manifest and that we are healed.I hear stories of healing but I still wonder why we never see instant healing.
I have great faith and have asked for healing for a pain in my neck that persisted for too long.It finally went away after 2 months of being prayed for.
When Jesus and the deciples healed people it was instantly,no manifesting or having to wait.Whats up with this?
Be blessed brother;

1 Timothy 4:14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.

Paul was encouaging Timothy to carry on - reminding him that Paul and the others had affrimed his spiritual gift to preach and teach. I believe this relates back to Acts 16:1-5. The laying of hands was a collective way of affirming he was indeed called and qualified. No healing is eluded to here in this book when taken in context that I can see at all.

God's time is not our own - God hears our prayers and healing after waiting may allow us to mature in our faith. Other times God may heal quickly - His will. But it does not require any special laying of hands, oils, special worded prayers or techiniques etc..

Hey man - thanks for the kind words and for commenting! There is an "outpouring" going on in FL alright - little of which is flowing from God.

Thank you for clearing up my confusion.
I wasnt disagreeing with you but it was a concernment of understanding.

Hey Roy,
I am quite sure there are many folks that disagree with my views on healing. I do know God heals and does many signs today - there is not however a Man or Woman or technique involved and or necessary - it is purely God's will, nor is the absence of a healing an indicator of a lack of faith etc.. that's what I think is most important. We shouldn't need a miracle or sign - we have God's word. That is not to say we should not pray for one another or for the healing of others - we are most assuredly called to.

In other words related to this post - one need not drive to FL and get healed. :)

Blessings brother!

Jesus told the disciples to heal and cast out demons. Does that not also apply to us modern day Christians?

"these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils." Mark 16:17

"Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour." Acts 16:18

"Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give." Matthew 10:8

I don't think men have control over demons, only God does. Yes, the apostles did many signs and wonders - it was to establish apostolic credentials as I noted in the post. That is not to say saints today may not, by the Sovereign will of God cast out demons by using the word of God - repent and believe. I think we have a two fold problem - 1. sin is not the result of demons; and 2. True demon control can only be cured by God's word confronting the individual, and only by God's will is the person delivered.

You see, today we have all we need in combating evil; God's word. To think we need a sign or miracle is wrong; no one who truly calls on the name of our Lord is dissappointed. That said, I won't agrue with anyone's personal experinces, but deliverance is always in the hand's of God alone.
